[Photo] Kim Jong-un visits fertilizer factory for first on-site guidance in 2020

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited a fertilizer factory in Sunchon, South Pyongan Province, the state-run Rodong Sinmun reported on Jan. 7. It was Kim’s first 2020 on-site guidance of an economic site. Observers have noted that Kim chose to visit an agricultural facility directly related to the public livelihood, as opposed to a military facility. During the 5th Plenary Session of the 7th Workers’ Party of Korea Central Committee, Kim touted the principles of economic self-reliance, confirming his prior stance of emphasizing the economy over military development.
